Update to Google Photos will help you jog your memory
“If you snapped photos on a hiking trip this time last year, chances are that Google Photos will let you know”, the company said. It’s free, you can store as many gigabytes or terabytes of your memories as you want, and it has an incredibly smart built-in search engine.
It’s definitely a cool feature, except that it can in some cases be harmful – particularly when it drudges up memories you may not exactly want to be reminded of, like a bad breakup or passing of a family member. You can also now sign in as a Google+ Page, a must-have feature for those users with businesses represented on the social network.
The Google Photos app will now serve up cards in the “assistant view” that urge you to “rediscover this day”, and they can include photos, photo collages, or videos. Facebook tried the same this earlier this year with its own “On This Day” feature, which added old memories right into your News Feed. Timehop rose to popularity by tapping into your social media accounts and serving up a little bit of of nostalgia every morning. The Google Photos app has been widely covered since its release and its numerous features are always been noted. The feature is heading to Android very soon, though it may not be available yet.
