Updated Yahoo Messenger Lands on Desktop (With Snapchat-Like ‘Unsend’)
“Our new platform provides you with a fast and easy way to send (and unsend) not only messages, but also photos and animated GIFs”, Yahoo announced on its official Tumblr page.
The new Yahoo Messenger app now boasts an Unsend feature-much like what you have on Snapchat.
Yahoo was acquired by mobile carrier Verizon for $4.83 billion earlier this week, and now the company has relaunched the Yahoo Messenger app for Mac and Windows computers. Combined, AOL and Yahoo will now have more than 25 brands.
Yahoo’s upgraded messenger app has been launched on Windows and Mac desktops, said the tech giant in a blog post.
The redesign comes with features that are uncommon on personal chat clients like the ability to unsend a message.
We are also introducing the unsend button – one of our most beloved Messenger features now on desktop.
Notably, the company launched an improved version of Messenger for Android, iOS, and web past year.
“Want to share photos from your latest vacation or simply spice up a message?” Yahoo has been in the business since the 1990s and isn’t about to get out of it. It announced that it will shut down the legacy version of the app on August 5.
The new Messenger also allows access to searchable and shareable GIFs, and lets folks “like” any comment, photo, or GIF in a one-to-one chat or group message.
Shoemaker is the senior director of Yahoo’s product management, and according to him, the desktop app is designed for multitasking, so users will not miss messages sent simultaneously by friends, family and colleagues.
