Updates on Georgia RB’s Arm and Recovery — Sony Michel Injury
The school confirmed junior running back Sony Michel fractured his left forearm during an accident Sunday evening, and underwent surgery in Athens on Monday to fix the damage.
The injury happened Sunday night and Michel has already undergone surgery to fix the break in his forearm. He will begin a post-operative rehabilitation program, the school said. Michel is expected to make a full recovery.
Michel joins Nick Chubb on the Bulldogs’ tailback injury list. Michel rushed 219 times for 1,161 yards with eight touchdowns, and the team expected him to form a dynamic duo with Chubb in 2016. I guess the question now, will both be ready for when the season starts?
Michel, who will be a junior this fall, rushed for a team-high 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns a year ago. Georgia opens the 2016 season on September 3 against North Carolina. He had 20 or more carries in seven of Georgia’s final eight games of 2015.
Georgia will have to lean on freshman Elijah Holyfield and late signee Brian Herrien at a position where Brendan Douglas was limited this spring following wrist surgery and redshirt freshman Tae Crowder still hasn’t had a college carry. Keith Marshall, No. 3 on Georgia’s rushing list in 2015, chose to turn pro after an injury-filled career. He played through a broken bone in his right hand last season sustained against Florida.
