US ambassador says no question Russia meddled in election

The U.S. decision to prioritize human rights at the Security Council is controversial.
That said, Haley’s tenure is otherwise noteworthy for how utterly quotidian her pronouncements would be in the course of any other Republican administration.

Mrs Haley told ABC News that, whatever Mr Trump has said about his respect for President Vladimir Putin, the usa leader “has not once called me and said, ‘Don’t beat up on Russian Federation'”.
“I think she’s great”, Haley’s Israeli counterpart, Israel’s United Nations Ambassador Danny Danon, told Fox News when asked how he thinks she is doing. She praised Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who has adopted a much lower profile than her own, and confirmed that she originally had interviewed for that higher-ranking position.
The ambassador also said the administration’s focus is on stopping terrorism and destroying ISIS, but “we are not going to stop calling people out when we see something wrong”.
She is clear about her role at the United Nations.
The treatment of Fayyad “shows a naivete and narrow focus that was extremely disturbing”, said Gerald Feierstein, a former senior official at the State Department. “If you look at their infrastructure, they are everywhere in the world now and they want to continue to do that so that they have a stronghold”, Haley observed. “And so once that information comes out, I expect that will be handled accordingly”, Indian-American Haley told ABC News in an interview.
The applause for that was loud, but it was even louder a few moments later.
“They haven’t used that influence, and so it’s hard for me to be optimistic with that”, he said.
“Why are we taking everything to the Security Council?”, he asked.
The Trump administration has proposed deep cuts in the US contribution to the U.N.’s budget.
As recently as Saturday, Trump derided investigations into Russia’s interference in the election as “the phony Russian Federation story”.
Haley has seemingly gone out of her way to make a splash.
Haley said “there is will in the Security Council” to deal with North Korea’s nuclear program but members need to discuss “how do we push that forward”. “I’m working to change the culture”.
She said she was “beating up on Russia” over issues such as its actions in Crimea and its dispute with Ukraine.
“I think that the United States has always been the moral compass of the world”. We do not think that is helpful.
Trump told the newspaper that he doesn’t “want to talk about tariffs yet, perhaps the next time we meet”. And I think the answer to the question is this effort to point the Congress in other directions, basically say, ‘Don’t look at me, don’t look at Russian Federation, there is nothing to see here.’ You know, I would tell people, whenever they see the President use the word ‘fake, ‘ it ought to set off alarm bells.
She said the United States prides itself on valuing human rights and “that’s not going to change”.
The role won’t enable Haley to snap her fingers and get whatever she wants on the discussion agenda. The result was a compromise, diplomats said.
Haley said, “First of all the facts need to come out”. Their tentacles are everywhere, she said. “I was definitely an outsider”.
