US Capitol Police: Vehicle hits barricade, driver in custody

(TRNS)- A vehicle struck the South Barricade of the Capitol building on Friday morning, according to U.S. Capitol police. Several streets around the building are also closed while the Capitol police and Washington D.C. Fire Department investigate the site.
One person was in the vehicle; they’re in the custody of the Capitol Police.
The U.S. Capitol Police and the House Sergeant at Arms are aware of and are monitoring the situation. “The driver (sole vehicle occupant) is in the custody of the [U.S. Capitol Police]”, read a statement released by Lt. Kimberly Schneider, who is the public information officer for the Capitol police.
The Nissan Altima, which had Florida plates, hit a security gate at Independence Avenue and New Jersey Avenue Northwest.
Photos from the scene show a maroon sedan with a crumpled hood that had apparently crashed head-on into the barricade.
