Georgia police have revealed another detail about the background of Lafayette movie theater shooter John Russel Houser, and it involves the Nazi flag.
Gov. Bobby Jindal said Houser “methodically” worked his way from the back of the theater to the front. Inside that room, investigators found journals and disguises – various wigs and glasses.
The suspect in Thursday’s theater shooting, John Russell Houser, 59, was described as a drifter with a criminal past.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is assisting Louisiana and Federal authorities as they investigate the shooting incident that occurred Thursday, July 23, in Lafayette, LA. Before that, he received an accounting degree from Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga.
“I was really anxious for everybody at that point”, Mr Gbery said.
“It appears he was intent on shooting and escaping”, Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft said on Friday.
As the moviegoers poured from the theater, Houser dropped his empty clip outside the theater’s side exit, spotted the officers approaching and headed back toward the auditorium, according to police and witness accounts. Houser’s wife, Kellie Maddox Houser, filed for divorce in March 2015 after being legally separated in December 2012.
While he was at the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office awaiting transfer to the hospital, Houser said to his wife that once he got out of the hospital, “he would continue his erratic as well as threatening behavior” to try to stop his daughter’s wedding, the filing said. Houser would call my old TV station to complain about government or our coverage of news events. “He was opposed to women having a say in anything”.
His family said he had a “volatile mental state” and “a history of mental health issues, i.e., manic depression and/or bi-polar disorder”, in 2008 court documents in which they sought protection from him. Going by the nickname Rusty Houser, the 58-year-old had a strong online presence, with the Daily Beast uncovering many postings on topics ranging from immigration to the future of the United States.
In 2006, Houser applied for a concealed carry permit, but it was denied because he had an arrest record at the time for arson out of Columbus.
After at least one bullet injured each woman in the leg, Martin got up and pulled the fire alarm.
“They heard a couple of pops and didn’t know what it was”, Randall Mann said.
When news emerged that a middle-aged white man in Lafayette, Louisiana opened fire at a showing of the Amy Schumer vehicle Trainwreck, I immediately had this sinking feeling that the movie choice wasn’t a coincidence-that this was, like the Elliot Rodger and George Sodini killings, an act of rage at women.
Paige Bearb, another theater-goer, told CNN that she saw people bleeding from gunshot wounds after running outside of the theater.
“We can shower them with love, thoughts and prayers”.
“Everything was a plot against the South,” said Hostilo, who said Houser expressed a fear that the U.S. government was trying to destroy the Confederacy. He is now in the sentencing phase of his trial, where a jury will determine whether he will receive the death penalty.
