US congressman make friendly wager on FCS title game

The campuses for Alabama’s championship contenders are about 130 miles apart on opposite sides of Birmingham – Jacksonville State to the East closer to Atlanta, and Tuscaloosa located West of the state’s biggest city.

But if the pressure of trying to win its first national title game (noon ET, ESPN2) wasn’t enough, the Gamecocks will also have to defeat No. 3 North Dakota State, which has won the championship for the past four years. Jacksonville State could become the fourth. The top-ranked Gamecocks will be looking to end the record-setting four-year reign of FCS powerhouse North Dakota State.

SEC EXPERIENCE: There are three starters in Jacksonville State’s front seven on defense who started their careers in the SEC.

Jacksonville State students will be keeping up with the championship game at home and in Texas. Pope has a school-record 1,757 yards rushing this season, 655 of those yards coming in the postseason.
