US drone strike kills Islamic State leader
The Iraqi Ministry of Human Rights said in a statement on Thursday that the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) introduced more than 100 Syrian women for sale in the market of Fallujah city in Anbar province. Millions of dollars-worth of weapons have been bought by several European countries to arm the Kurds, but U.S. commanders, overseeing all military operations against Isis, are blocking the arms transfers.
“In that context MPs should be thinking about these issues”.
Britain conducts regular attacks in neighbouring Iraq and flies drones over Syria to gather intelligence.
The government on Wednesday gave its strongest indication yet that MPs will be given a new vote on whether to bomb Isil in Syria.
Julian Lewis, the newly-elected chairman of the Commons Defence Committee, said that having wanted to remove Assad without helping the extremists in 2013, ministers now wanted to remove IS without helping Assad.
“At the end of the day, we need credible, moderate partners on the ground”, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey said at the same briefing regarding the train and equip program in Syria.
But Mr Fallon said: “ISIS is organised and directed and administered from Syria and there’s an illogicality about not being able to do it there”.
The spokeswoman added: “ISIL is seeking to find areas from which it can operate, from where it can seek to threaten people here in Britain”.
A report monitored on British newspaper Telegraph has claimed that Washington is stopping its allies in the Middle East from giving weapons to Kurdish groups fighting against ISIL.
“So-called Islamic State – Isil, Isis, call them what you like – have no respect for the borders that now exist”.
Until now the RAF has supported the coalition strikes in Syria by providing surveillance to those missions, but has not carried out any strikes itself.
“As Michael Fallon has said, they don’t differentiate, and frankly it has been illogical for the a year ago that our forces have been engaged just in the air above Iraq and not above Syria”.
“The government in Baghdad has not held things up, has not caused there to be impediments to the delivery of this material”, said Mr. Kirby, referring to handing over the weapons to the Kurds and other non-state actors such as Sunni tribes in Anbar province.
With senior Tories continuing to express doubts about extending the action against IS into Syria, Mr Cameron’s official spokeswoman said there was a need for “more thought, more deliberation, more time” before any decision was taken.
“He thinks it would be better if there was consensus for such action”, she added.
