US embassy warns of potential terror attacks in Nigeria

Zakzaky said the assailants in the procession attack belonged to the same group as those who have committed previous attacks on the Shiite movement, including an incident at a pro-Palestinian march in Zaria in July 2014, when 34 people were killed reportedly by military personnel.

One of the suspects, according to a statement issued by the Army Spokesman in the area, Col. Sani Usman, is among the senior members of the sect recently declared wanted by the army.

Gen. Victor Ezugwu, the Brigade Commander of the 28 Task Force Brigade in Mubi, Adamawa state, said the troops indeed arrested a Boko Haram kingpin, but did not provide further details. Freed captives are being reunited with their families.

The troops at Gajigana were also attacked and a soldier killed, but the location had since been reinforced.

“He was arrested at Uba town, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State along with two other terrorists at at Rumirgo and Kilakasa”.

“The child said he was sneaked into the camp as a displaced child to get familiarized with the people and wait for the day he would be prompted to carry (out) his own suicide attack, ” Usman said in a statement.

Usman identified the 11-year-old boy as a resident of Bama, a town 45 miles (72 kilometers) northeast of Maiduguri. However, the militants suffered a blow in November when the Cameroonian army claims it killed around 100 Boko Haram fighters and liberated some 900 hostages in an operation on the Cameroonian-Nigerian border. “The teenager’s job was to do same in the camp sometime in the future”.

One video published by Boko Haram showed children training to shoot with assault rifles.

“This brought about an unprecedented influx of IDPs to the camp which the terrorists took advantage and infiltrate in order to wreck more havoc among the society”.

“The apprehension of the suspects is a boost to the fight against terrorism and insurgency in that they were assisting with investigation that would lead to the arrest of more suspected terrorists in the camp and elsewhere”, Usman stated.
