US Franciscans welcome Obama’s efforts to reduce gun violence
Kyle said she did not believe any of the recent mass shootings “would have been stopped by a background check”.
“We’ve sold close to 50 guns today”, says James Jarrett, who has sold guns for 25 years with Patriot Services Incorporated. “The fact of the matter is, is that violent crime has been steadily declining across America for a pretty long time, and you wouldn’t always know it by watching television, but overall, most cities are much safer than they were 10 years ago or 20 years ago”, he said.
And in his opinion piece, the president concedes that he will “take action” because “it’s clear that common-sense gun reform won’t happen during this Congress”.
Michelle Obama would want a “shotgun or rifle” to make sure her family were protected if living in a rural area, Barack Obama revealed in a televised gun debate on Thursday.
Chris Kyle, played by Bradley Cooper in the film American Sniper, served four tours as a Navy SEAL in Iraq but was slain by a disturbed man at a Texas gun range in 2013.
“There are certainly a lot of people who just have a fundamental distrust that you do not want to get – go further and further and further down this road”, he said.

At the CNN-hosted town hall on gun violence, Obama faced some of his toughest questions from Kyle.
“When he’s talking about that people are scared that you’re going to take away our freedom, it’s not just the freedom of whether I have to take a background check or not”.
“I’d challenge the notion that the reason for that [rate] is because there’s more gun ownership”, the president said after hearing Taya’s argument.
Obama says, “We know we can’t stop every act of violence and evil in the world, but maybe we could stop one act”.
He said: ‘And there’s the reality that there are neighborhoods around the country where it is easier for a 12- or 13-year-old to purchase a gun than it is for them to get a book’. “In actuality, fully automatic weapons are already highly restricted and require an additional license most gun owners will never have”. He also wrote an op-ed saying that he would not back any politician – even one from his own party – who did not support common-sense gun control.
