US Jews shifting their views on Israel, Iran
He quotes the Iranian supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who said of Israel: “This barbaric, wolf-like, and infanticidal regime of Israel which spares no crime has no cure but to be annihilated”, and stressed that in calculating foreign policy toward Iran, “only the country’s leadership matters”.
Their efforts are likely to fail.
Polls have showed that the majority of Americans oppose the deal with Iran. Will this achievement encourage the Jewish donors who favored the deal to come together and form a single Jewish organization outspokenly independent of Israel and its camp followers in the U.S.? “We agree with the assessments of leaders and experts in the United States, along with virtually all Israeli voices across the political spectrum, that we can, and must, do better” we added.
First, they need to be honest about the consequences of scuttling the accord.
Eric Pickles has criticised former cabinet colleague Philip Hammond for suggesting Iranian calls for Israel’s elimination amounted to “revolutionary sloganising”, as the Board of Deputies issued its strongest condemnation yet of the nuclear deal. This is not in the cards.
As hard as it may be for Reform Jews to admit it, Obama is forcing his Jewish admirers to choose between him and Israel and that is not a choice any American, let alone a Jewish supporter of the Jewish state, should be asked to make. Accusations that a group of super-powerful shadowy Jews – also known as neo-cons – were responsible for the Iraq war have re-surfaced. I can not imagine the harm that would happen to all my friends in the Middle East with a nuclear-armed Iran. “The global sanctions regime would dissolve”. For our goal the important point is that Shapiro wasn’t the only Jewish donor trying to pressure legislators and, in fact, many were urging not rejection but acceptance of the Iran deal. Included are 50 BLU-113, 5,000-pound bombs and special, penetrating nose cones that are designed for use on deeply buried targets, such as Iran’s Fordow underground uranium enrichment facility. It is noteworthy that Israel has refrained from any criticisms of Russian Federation, in spite of its public advocacy for Iran both before and during the negotiations process leading up to the agreement.
-There are a good number of Israeli intelligence professionals (to say nothing of their American counterparts) who “have very positive views of the nuclear agreement“.
Israeli suspicions that Iran seeks to lead inspectors astray are not far-fetched.
The Times article identifies several wealthy Jewish donors who were lobbying in support of the Iran agreement but doesn’t tell us if they have been as successful as Shapiro. Another unique element of the Israeli weapons purchase program is that up to 26.3 percent of the U.S. money can be spent for Israeli-manufactured military equipment. “This is the way to provide what the deal is lacking”.
Some have proposed that Obama should rule out, now, Iran’s producing highly enriched uranium after the 10- to 15-year period, since there is no peaceful reason for it to do so.
A June 10 Congressional Research Service study found that the U.S. military assistance has not only “helped transform Israel’s armed forces into one of the most technologically sophisticated militaries in the world“, but also “helped Israel build a domestic defense industry, which ranks as one of the top 10 suppliers of arms worldwide”. Writing in the New York Times, where she is a member of the editorial writing staff with expertise in foreign Affairs, Ms. Giacomo applauded Mr. Nadler’s stand for “showing courage”.
“Our positions against the usurper Zionist regime have not changed at all; Israel should be annihilated and this is our ultimate slogan”, Sheikholeslam said Tuesday, according to the semi-official Fars News.
