US mom accused of killing 3 sons could face death penalty
The grand jury considered the case against Brittany Pilkington for less than two hours Tuesday before indicting her on three counts of murder with death penalty specifications.
Later investigators say she admitted to killing that child, her 4-year-old, and another 3-month-old past year.
Authorities now believe Pilkington used each boy’s comfort blanket to suffocate him in his crib or bed because she wanted her husband to pay more attention to her and their 3-year-old daughter, Goslee said.
Pilkington is jailed on $1 million bond.
Bellefontaine Police say Pilkington confessed to killing 3-month-old Noah Pilkington, on August. 18; 4-year-old son, Gavin Pilkington on April 6 of this year; and 3-month old Niall on July 22, 2014.
Pilkington is being held on preliminary charges of murder and is scheduled to have a hearing in Bellefontaine Municipal Court at 5 p.m. today.
During a hearing, a doctor speculated that the boys might have had a genetic defect.
He’s also been calling local lawmakers to propose a Noah’s law to help prevent children from going back into risky situations in children services court cases.
Prosecutors say she smothered her sons with blankets over a 13-month period.
Goslee said Pilkington was dominated and isolated by her 43-year-old husband, Joseph Pilkington, who had been Cummins’ live-in boyfriend before marrying Brittany Pilkington in 2010.
A grand jury is expected to meet to decide if there is enough evidence to Brittany Pilkington to go to trial.
Her father, Ed Cummins, said he wasn’t present when she grew up and he regrets it.
