US, Other Powers Secretly Allowed Iran to Evade Restrictions From Nuclear Deal
The informal agreement was struck to insure that Iran would meet the deadline needed for its economic sanctions to begin being lifted.
Iran was allowed to evade a number of restrictions specified in the nuclear agreement signed with a group of world powers previous year, according to a new report. LEU can be processed into weapons-grade uranium.
01 de septiembre de 2016, 00:15Teheran, Sep 1 (Prensa Latina) Iran and Russian Federation will review their bilateral cooperation and discuss the conditions to sale heavy water to Moscow, as well as the establishment here of two power plants with nuclear power, diplomatic sources reported.
Such a deal could make history as the first time a Western firm has acquired a significant holding in a major Iranian company since Tehran agreed to curb its nuclear program a year ago in exchange for the lifting of global sanctions.
A White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the joint commission and its role were “not secret”.
According to Albright, the Obama administration informed Congress of the loopholes after the fact, on January 16, 2016. However, he failed to address the deal’s exemptions.
It allowed Iran to operate 19 radiation containment chambers larger than the agreement had set (the original numbers weren’t identified).
Another loophole in the epic deal also concerned unsafe, weapons-grade nuclear material… Congress was sent the confidential documents that very same day. The hot cells can also be “misused for secret, mostly small-scale plutonium separation efforts”, according to the report.
Democratic Senator Bob Menendez, a leading critic of the Iran deal and a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said in an email: ‘I was not aware nor did I receive any briefing (on the exemptions)’.
