“It needs to be a clarion call for all of us in this country to take seriously the grievances that many in the minority communities in this country have”, Bratton said of the attack in Dallas, “as well as the concerns that police have, about not feeling that they’re understood in terms of all that they face, and all that they try to do”.
“I’ve also had basically an inquiry from Senator Clinton of setting up a call to be briefed on what’s going on in NY, and again, I’d be glad to speak to either one of them in that regard”, he said.
The death of Eric Garner, above, was referenced during Mayor Bill de Blasio’s press conference Friday about New York City security following the shooting deaths of five officers in Dallas.
Bratton said both candidates were welcome to come to the NYPD for a briefing if they so desired, according to Donald.
Although he repeatedly spoke of the tragedy of five cops losing their lives, de Blasio also said it’s important not to forget about Philando Castile, the Minnesota man killed by a cop at a traffic stop, and Alton Sterling, who was killed selling CDs in Baton Rouge.
The mayor and the commissioner said there had been no threats against police officers in New York City but that all police officers would be doubled up and that auxiliary police officers will not be utilized in the field for the next several days.
