US special operations reportedly killed or wounded in Afghanistan
There are reports of at least two separate instances involving special operations forces in Afghanistan that resulted in casualties, but USA officials have not commented publicly on the matter yet.
An unknown number of US special forces were killed or wounded in Afghanistan and a medical helicopter went down while trying to help them, NBC reported on Tuesday, citing unidentified USA officials.
This comes as coalition forces have also been deployed to support to the Afghan forces after Taliban militants launched a major offensive to take control of key districts including Sangin during the recent weeks.
Details on the battle and the number wounded or killed was sketchy.
A US medevac helicopter had been called in to recover the casualties but it came under mortar and small arms fire and was disabled, one defense official told NBC News. Ron Flesvig, said the helicopter was not shot down.
A second defense official, again speaking on condition of anonymity, said the affected helicopter is a UH-60 Black Hawk.
