US State Dept “clarifies” Kerry’s linking of terror to settlements

Israel set up checkpoints Wednesday in Palestinian neighborhoods of east Jerusalem and mobilised hundreds of soldiers as it struggled to stop attacks.
The comments come after a particularly bloody day Tuesday in which a pair of Palestinian stabbing and shooting attacks in Jerusalem killed three Israelis and another two attacks took place in the normally quiet Israeli city of Raanana.
Another of the new mandates is that dead Palestinian attackers should not be returned to their families for burial.
Though the violence may be just another notch in the Israeli-Arab conflict, the latest attacks have a few fearing a third Palestinian “intifada”, or uprising, against Israel. The Israeli military and Palestinian Authority have also increased security cooperation in the West Bank, Pressman said. Palestinian officials say that in several cases, Palestinian attackers were killed after they had already been subdued and when they no longer posed a threat.

It’s an easy comparison to make; the previous intifadas saw clashes between Israelis and Palestinians.
Seven Israelis have been killed and many injured in a wave of Palestinian knife attacks this month, while 18 Palestinians from the West Bank and Jerusalem have been killed.

The answer is addressing the root cause of the violence, which means re-establishing a political horizon for the end of occupation and the establishment of a Palestinian state, living side by side with Israel in peace and with security, in the near term.
A later statement said that the unidentified attacker was dead.
Mr Mukherjee, who has been criticised by the Israeli media for not mentioning Palestinian “terrorism” during his stay in Palestine prior to coming here, later told Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, that India believed that there is no better option than to resolve issues through negotiations and peaceful dialogue.
