US woman guilty of cutting fetus from womb

Lane beat and stabbed Ms Wilkins and used two kitchen knives to remove the victim’s unborn baby girl Aurora in Lane’s Longmont home.
Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett said that Lane’s actions were “poorly planned” but she wanted to commit murder.
A Colorado woman who cut an unborn baby from the womb of a woman she met on Craigslist has been convicted of attempted murder following a high-profile political debate about the legal rights of fetuses. “Words are not sufficient to describe it, though I may try”.
Wilkins, speaking slowly and with composure, quoted Martin Luther King Jr. on the power of forgiveness.
“I think it’s probably a fear of any child whose lost a child that they will forget and that they won’t think of them daily”, Wilkins said.
After the verdict was read, Garnett asked that a psychological evaluation of Lane be conducted prior to sentencing, but a member of her defense team opposed the idea.
Wilkins had gone to Lane’s home in response to a Craigslist ad for baby clothes.
Wilkins thanked people who had come into her life since the March 2015 attack in the attacker’s Longmont home, including the prosecution team, the first responders, the 911 dispatcher who took her call and the media.
“I do not hate Dynel, but I am angry for all the pain that she caused”, Wilkins said outside court.
Ms Wilkins also said the verdict was a “triumph of justice”. Yet, Wilkins said, Lane hit her again and a chaotic physical altercation ensued.
Wilkins had said she believed that might get Lane to stop the attack, but instead she responded by saying; “If you love me, you’ll let me do this”. Her sentencing is scheduled for April 29, the report states.
The prosecutor said Lane had even picked a name for her imaginary child: “James”. “I’m just as confused as you guys are”. They recalled evidence of Lane hosting a baby shower despite not actually being pregnant and reminded the court that Lane had found a photo of an ultrasound on the Internet, printed it out and passed it off as her own.
Early testimony seemed to suggest that Lane – who had been claiming to be pregnant for around 14 months at that time – may have attacked Wilkins because of an ultimatum that was given to her by her boyfriend at the time. “I felt like I was being thoughtful, you know, and listening to her and being kind to her. But eventually I said, ‘I really have to go'”. She says Colorado has been a place of healing where she’s found solace on hikes and through her love of pottery. She was in critical condition for days.
“She was covered in blood”, Sawyer said.
Prosecutors said the woman, Dynel Lane, 36, was obsessed with having a baby and concocted elaborate lies to convince those close to her she was pregnant.
Prosecutors say the man, David Ridley, did not want a baby.
Ms Sutton and her baby were taken to Montefiore Hospital, where Ms Sutton was pronounced dead.
