USA Postpones ‘Shooter’ Until Fall
In light of the weekend’s ambush attack against law enforcement in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, officials announced that the show would not debut until the fall, but no date was announced.
Actor Mark Wahlberg attends a photocall for “Shooter” on March 28, 2007 at Hotel Santo Mauro in Madrid.
An exact premiere date for Shooter has not been set. As other outlets have done in the past when attacks or shootings have occurred, United States of America last week postponed the original July 19 premiere to next Monday after five Dallas police officers were killed and more injured by a sniper attack a week and a half ago. “After further consideration, USA Network, Paramount TV and Universal Cable Productions have chose to move the premiere of Shooter to the fall”, a USA representative said in a statement.
Now the series has been postponed until at least the autumn, with a source telling entertainment industry website Indiewire that November would be the earliest premiere date as the USA Network does not want to debut the series during the US Presidential campaign.
“Shooter” isn’t the first TV show this year to be delayed in the wake of tragic events. Swagger will be placing himself in self-imposed exile but will be working with Secret Service agent Isaac Johnson, to be played by Omar Epps. Some 10 months before that, United States of America opted to hold the season one finale of Mr. Robot a week when an ex-employee of a Virginia TV station killed a reporter and photographer while on live TV.
Wahlberg is an executive producer on the show, along with Stephen Levinson (Ballers) and Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers).
