USA Triple-Jumper Celebrates Silver Medal With Marraige Proposal At Rio Olympics
What an incredible win! Christian Taylor, 26, took home the Olympic gold medal for his awesome triple jump with a distance of 17.86m.
China’s Dong Bin took the bronze medal with a best effort of 17.58m.
Speaking before the Games to Premier’s media partner Passion for Sport about his faith, he said: “This is what I do it for”. “Win, lose or draw this was something I felt like I had to do today”.
Taylor and Claye are the fourth and fifth Americans with multiple triple jump Olympic medals, and Taylor is the fifth man to defend his title. He said they’d work it out after the day of competition.
Simone Biles wrapped up her remarkable Olympic Games with some more history.
In the triple jump final round, each athlete is given six chances to post their best distance possible.
Both former Florida Gators got off to sensational starts with big jumps on their first efforts, and nobody in the field came close to pulling ahead. Prowling the track and muttering to himself between jumps, Taylor proved too strong however, also recording two jumps of 17.77, which would also have been enough for gold. “I’m going to propose to my best friend, ‘” Claye, 25, gushed. “I felt like it was a special day”, he continued. “I told her I want to grow old with her”, Claye recounted.
The silver medalist wasted no time after his win to put the ring on Harrison’s finger.
Harrison just missed out in qualifying for the hurdling event in Rio, but will be going home with much better hardware than a gold medal.
