USAA renews title sponsorship for Army-Navy game
Billed as “America’s Game”, Navy (9-2) has defeated Army (2-9) a series-best 13 straight times and 15 of the last 16 games. If you know anyone in the armed service, you know there’s more than a fair share of good-natured ribbing between the branches, sometimes bordering on the not-so-good-natured.
When Keenan Reynolds first faced Army, the Navy quarterback couldn’t help getting caught up in the enormity of the historic rivalry.
Army against Navy college football is ingrained in American history, and it’s only fitting that they are the only two teams to play this Saturday. Junior Aaron Kemper has a team-high 506 rushing yards and three touchdowns while Edgar Poe has five TDs – the most by a Black Knights receiver since 2009.EXTRA POINTS1.
Previous year it took a Reynolds touchdown run to beat Army 17-10 in a close game. On Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, he hopes to add another milestone to his impressive list of accomplishments: first quarterback to go 4-0 as a starter in the Army-Navy series.
Monken explained that he has seen progress throughout the season in his young team, but pointed out the players need to learn how to finish games. If the Midshipmen defeat Army, they will have a chance to set a school record for wins in a season with 11 in the Military Bowl against Pittsburgh on December 28, but the Black Knights will be eager to salvage their fifth straight losing season and 18th in the last 19.
Today, the 2-9 Black Knights from Army will look to end the 9-2 Navy Midshipmen’s 13-game win streak against Army. But that’s more than just a simple winning streak. With only the Army/Navy game on this weekend they pick the over/under also. He was just shy of tying the all-time record held by Terrance West and Adrian Peterson from the entire Division I of college football. The senior has totaled 83 rushing touchdowns over the last four seasons and gained more than 1,000 yards on the ground each of the last three. Reynolds has two games remaining, Dixon has one. He is 10 yards behind fourth-place Brad Smith of Missouri and 64 yards behind Jordan Lynch of Northern Illinois for third. In his previous eight Army-Navy games, Navy is undefeated. Reynolds can become the first quarterback to go 4-for-4 in a classic rivalry that began in 1890.
GAMEDAY: ESPN’s “College GameDay” is in Philadelphia for the second time this season. The game is televised on CBS.
