Usain Bolt beats Justin Gatlin again to win gold in 200m
That was the year before Gatlin, having just matched the world record, tested positive for a banned substance for a second time and was suspended for four years.
Upon embarking on his momentous victory lap, things did for a moment come to a crashing halt for Bolt, with the 29-year-old soon finding himself being taken out by a photographer on a segway. “I’m fine so it’s all fun”. This guy’s legacy is at stake, so if he’s OK with it and can respect Justin Gatlin, that’s good enough for me. The offending cameraman hit a metal rail on the side of the track and veered right into the back of Bolt.
“It means a lot more to me than anything else”.
While speaking to the Guardian, Bolt said: “It’s alright, I will get over it. Never a doubt [for the relays], never a doubt”.
“It wasn’t aimed at Justin Gatlin“. I was not really focused on time. “I am No1”.
“I can run faster than the current world record”, said Dibaba, who set a world record in the 1,500 last month.
Puffing his cheeks out and swinging his arms high, though, Bolt pulled away down the home straight for an ultimately comfortable victory, thumping his chest with his fists as he crossed the line.
There was fear and loathing of a Galtin win in the 100m on Sunday when it all seemed so likely, but on Thursday night there was les surprise Bolt should win but equal satisfaction that after a year in which he was the dominant sprinter until the time that mattered the convicted doper Gatlin was beaten.
Gatlin, who was also second to Bolt in the 100m race, clocked 19.74 seconds, 0.13 ahead of third-placed Anaso Jobodwana from South Africa.
Bolt showed a cut on his leg afterward but said he had no worries that he’d be affected by the injury.
“The rumor I am trying to start right now is Justin Gatlin paid him”.
“I went in there with my game plan. I had to prove to him that I am No1”.
“But one of my goals is to run under 19 seconds”, he said.
“My attempt was to come here to compete to the best of my abilities”.
“I have no ill will toward Usain”.
Zharnel Hughes, the Anguillan-born Briton who had harboured hopes of a bronze, was fifth in 20.02.
Allegations of widespread doping plunged athletics into crisis before the world championships but Bolt’s heroics have once again papered over the cracks. “You study again and come back”.
“I think he got the worst of it”, Bolt said. He then teased that he may yet retire after the Rio Olympics at the age of 30. “I wanted to control the race”.
“I think he’s faring well, he looks impressive”, Nehemiah continued. It’s more taxing. I can’t enjoy it as much as I want to because I have to be sacrificing a lot more.
