USC Athletic Director Pat Haden says thorough background check done before
August 23: Sarkisian and USC athletic director Pat Haden offer statements regarding the incident through the school. I know they are coming off of probation, but they are still loaded and deserve better than what they got. He expressed confidence in himself, the staff and his team, and said he wanted the job permanently but understood it was a process and that’s not where his focus was.

Haden said Sarkisian was sacked after he uncovered more (undisclosed) details about the coach’s conduct.
According to Haden, the troubled coach showed up to a team meeting smelling like alcohol and then failed to show up to practice.
As Carroll, USC’s former head coach who hired Sarkisian for his first coaching job 14 years ago, was speaking at Seahawks headquarters Monday more news came out from SB Nation that Sarkisian was checking into a “residential treatment facility” to treat an alcohol issue.
‘After careful consideration of what is in the best interest of the university and our student-athletes, I have made the decision to terminate Steve Sarkisian, effective immediately.
Now, as Sarkisian reportedly seeks treatment, the sports world is wishing him a quick recovery.
It appears that the rocky Steve Sarkisian era at USC is already over.
Haden said an unnamed national search firm helped with Sarkisian’s hiring despite his anecdotal history of boisterous alcohol-related behavior during his time at Washington, but the AD couldn’t explain why USC saw nothing wrong with the public records obtained by various news outlets that demonstrated Sarkisian’s enthusiasm for hefty alcohol purchases while on the job with the Huskies.
Petersen succeeded Sarkisian at Washington and Del Rio was hired by the Oakland Raiders.
Carroll said he had communicated with Sarkisian recently. He said he looked into the situation further over the next 24 hours and, after determining that Sarkisian’s “did not meet USC’s standards”, chose to fire him. “And that’s what I gave him”. He said he will not discuss candidates or a timetable for replacing Sarkisian on a full-time basis out of respect to his “very capable” coaching staff.
USC President C.L. Max Nikias released a statement Tuesday, emphasizing his support for Haden.
“The biggest thing is, a lot of these guys – fortunately or unfortunately – have been in this situation before”, Helton said.
“We are so excited about the opportunites ahead of us”, Helton said Tuesday. He is a good man. He is a good coach and we can not wait for the day when he’s back on the field doing what he loves.
“I am not one that kicks a man when he’s down”, Helton said. It’s about him personal life and getting things in order.
Helton, whose voice raised to a shouting level on a few occasions while he spoke Tuesday, made a few changes to the staff but will remain offensive coordinator and play-caller.
Most of those recruits redshirted in 2012 and then played five games for Kiffin before he was sacked in the middle of the 2013 season.
“It breaks my heart to see how this has gone”, Carroll told 710 ESPN Seattle on Monday morning.
