USC Coach Steve Sarkisian Gets Drunk, Rips Pac-12 Rivals — UCLA Twitter Treat
Athletic director Pat Haden stepped in to get Sarkisian away, and Haden was then seen talking to Sarkisian afterward.
However, there is something wrong when the head coach of a team only two years free of NCAA sanctions might be drunk and is slurring his words at the program’s “Salute to Troy” event – the annual school-sponsored season kickoff for deep-pocketed donors. “Pat Haden talked to me after the event about my actions and I assured him this would not happen again”.
I’m not really sure Sark did a very thorough scouting report, because the teams that he was referring to were Arizona State, Notre Dame, and Oregon.
The Salute to Troy is a booster event that is held annually to kick off the new football season.
Per the statement on USC’s website, Sarkisian elaborated on the incident… He ended his comments with a profane version of USC’s “Fight On” slogan.
Whatever his salary is, it’s unlikely to be on the line after Sarkisian’s drunk behavior at the USC event.
Former USC coach Lane Kiffin also consumed alcohol after games but interim coach Ed Orgeron said he banned it from the locker room when he took over in 2013.
Sarkisian’s speech included dropping an F-bomb when introducing his team.
Haden also released a statement on Sunday, confirming that he had spoken with Sarkisian to let the head coach know that his drunken outburst was unacceptable.
ASU defeated USC on a last-second Hail Mary pass in last year’s meeting in Los Angeles. The Trojans open the season as a 29-point favorite at home against Arkansas State on September 5 at 11PM ET. USC is No. eight within the preseason AP prime 25, launched Sunday, and the Trojans have been picked to win the Pac-12 within the convention’s preseason media ballot final month.
