USC’s Steve Sarkisian relinquishes play-calling duties
By now, you may have heard that Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin sent out a tweet that was supposed to be a DM in which he reference USC coach Steve Sarkisian.
Haden said he had “thoughtful conversations” with medical professionals and staff members and that “a lot of careful thought was given” before deciding on a course of action for Sarkisian following the now-infamous incident at the school’s annual “Salute to Troy” event on August 22. Sarkisian said the transition started in spring football.
Sarkisian was visibly intoxicated in public at a season kickoff event last weekend, & admitted to consuming a mix of alcohol and drugs. The second-year coach apologized in a statement for his behavior shortly thereafter and then offered up another apology in his first meeting in front of reporters, acknowledging that he will seek treatment to see if he has some type of drinking problem. “I think we’re just going to be a bunch of tough guys who go out and compete”.
“I love calling plays – that’s what I do… how I got into this profession and worked my way though it”, he said.
“He’s a very innovative coach”. But of this much we can be assured: The Trojans should be a better balanced, more prepared football team now. “But I also want to focus on being a really good head coach and I want to be with our defense and celebrate with Adoree’ when he gets an interception”.
