USPS orders 9000 delivery vans from Fiat Chrysler
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said Tuesday it will supply the U.S. Postal Service with more than 9,000 Ram ProMaster cargo vans, giving the new cargo van a high-profile contract that could help to raise brand awareness for Ram’s commercial truck division. The Ram ProMaster 2500 uses a front-wheel drive layout, which is unique to the segment.
Each ProMaster will also use a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine making a substantial 280 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The order is separate from the Postal Service’s ongoing competition to replace its aging fleet of 180,000 aluminum mail-delivery vehicles.
While each and every one of our fleet customers is important to us, none command our attention like USPS. The Transit is the undisputed leader of the USA commercial van market, with 75,931units sold so far this year, compared to Promaster’s 16,774 deliveries. “I can’t think of another more mission-critical service than literally delivering the goods of our nation on a daily basis”.
In the United States, the ProMaster van – based on the popular European large commercial van Fiat Ducato – competes against the Ford Transit, Chevrolet Express, Nissan NV and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Best-inclass fuel efficiency, cargo capacity, usability, and, of course, total cost of ownership all combine to deliver a proven solution for businesses and fleets.
