UT Athletic Director Dismisses Reports of Strong’s Firing
Now, his players are making it known to the public that Strong is their coach of choice, even if his fate is sealed. Some fought back tears.
The meeting would outline Strong’s departure with the hope of Strong coaching in Friday’s TCU game “to honor him as much as possible”, one source close to the situation told HD. “That’s why we’re going to go out and whoop TCU’s ass Friday”, says McConaughey.
When asked about the rumors and what Strong has meant to him, senior defensive tackle Paul Boyette Jr. lost control of his emotions Monday. “I can’t say enough about him”. The game against TCU (5-5) could be Strong’s final game.
The players know I cut for them but they also know i’m a straight shooter and they not performing like they should. But they committed two turnovers of their own in an ugly third quarter, which the Longhorns turned into back-to-back touchdowns for a 21-10 lead.
Texas coach Charlie Strong participated in his regular press conference Monday, amid reports he will be fired following the Longhorns’ final regular-season game against TCU.
A source familiar with the decision-making process indicated Sunday that the decision had been made to fire Strong.
President Greg Fenves has little experience being in charge of a university which values football so highly.
While Strong realizes that wins and losses are important, he believes the overall development of the young men that join the team is an accomplishment. But, three losses where Strong’s team gave up 45, 49 and 50 points, plus the other three losses where they lost 21-24 twice and 20-24, may have caused Texas officials to run out of patience.
At 16-20, Strong will end his three-year tenure with the worst record in UT history.
“It’s great to send the seniors out like this”, he said. He returned this year only to be fired four games into the season. Strong said it won’t happen. When Strong first arrived, he set his “core values” that included no guns, no drugs, respecting woman and honesty.
On Sunday night, Charlie Strong’s firing as Texas head football coach seemed a sure thing. “When they leave this place, they know who they are”.
Perrin sometimes attends portions of Strong’s weekly news conference, which is broadcast by the school’s TV partner the Longhorn Network, and the statement didn’t indicate if he planned to on Monday. Considering how this season started – with Texas beating Notre Dame in Austin, ESPN saying that “Texas is back”, and the Longhorns jumping to No. 11 in the AP Poll – this is something of a surprise.
