Utah Honor Flight “flies again” from southern Utah honoring veterans with a
September 21 will be the last flight in 2015 for the Inland Northwest Honor Flight.
Fifty veterans from across Utah are in the Washington, D.C., area as part of the Utah Honor Flight on a free trip to see the memorials built in their honor.
Mayor Tom Henry, a Vietnam veteran, is on the flight as a guardian for a Navy Lieutenant Commander from Granger. The flight shuttled World War ll and Korean War Veterans to Washington, D.C, . where they will be given the opportunity to view memorials erected in memory of their service. He says some Osceola County veterans took an Honor Flight a few years ago out of Sioux Falls, but since then, there haven’t been any nearby.
Nearly all donations go directly toward the veteran’s trips.
His daughter, Terry Gifford, was the one who found out about the program.
The Ohio State University marching band will be performing for those coming home from the trip, which will include veterans from World War II and the Korean War. Honor Flight NE Indiana, Inc.is a volunteer, nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization. “And so, they deserve this because of all that they’ve done to sacrifice for each one of us”.
“We got to see everyone’s monuments there”.
“We’re just appreciative of the support of the communities and people in surrounding cities, who donate, attend welcome home ceremonies and sponsor vets”, she said, noting that school classes also write letters so the vets get “mail call” while on trips.
“We were on the tipping point”, he said. “I am always extremely honored to touch the lives of our heroes in such a meaningful way”, she said. “I honestly believe, as much study as I’ve done on World War II, we were on the tipping point”.
