A day after he was quoted by a news agency as saying in a function at Haridwar that “killers of cows have no right to stay in India”, Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat was at pains to announce on Friday that he had been misquoted.
“I can not speak such nonsense”. “I feel that such kind of statements are not good for the country”, Jyoti told reporters on the sidelines of a programme here.
“Anyone who kills cows, no matter which community he belongs to, is India’s biggest enemy and has no right to live in the country”, Rawat said addressing a gathering at a function on the occasion of Gopashtami here. Harish Rawat on Thursday termed cow slaughterers as country’s biggest enemy.
According to a report by Mail Today, the Bharatiya Janata Party member of the Uttar Pradesh legislative Assembly said: “A strong law should be enacted against cow slaughter”.
It’s been a long time hence, people of the nation were coming out of the risen intolerance and from the rage of beef ban while during this state, Harish Rawat stormed the blanked out topic to headlines with is rabble-rousing comments and statements.
“I have pursued secular and progressive ideas throughout my decades- old political life, and there is no question of making such irresponsible statements”, the chief minister said.
Mr Khattar later amended that all he meant was “we should show respect for each other’s sentiment”.
