UW volleyball sweeps Oregon, sets team record for consecutive Pac-12 home wins

Two teams trending in opposite directions meet Saturday when Oregon visits Washington, which is looking to snap an 11-game losing streak against the Ducks.

We don’t know who is starting at quarterback for the Ducks, who are coming off a heartbreaking double-overtime loss at home to Washington State. The Huskies showed their defense can hold down the best of them last week, though, against Cody Kessler and USC.

Coverage of this game will air on ESPN2 beginning at 10:30 pm ET from Husky Stadium. That has been far from the case during Oregon’s 11-game win streak over Washington. The Husky defense was on point, and will need a similar, if not better performance against the Ducks scoring machine, averaging 41.5 points per game.

But if Oregon truly is down, Huskies coach Chris Petersen doesn’t see it.

He’s not wrong. Oregon tailback Royce Freeman, a bruising sophomore with uncommon speed for a man who stands 5-foot-11 and 230 pounds, has rushed for 859 yards and nine touchdowns on 123 carries this season. If Washington can slow him, it’ll be a long afternoon for Oregon.

According to Lake, Freeman is “fast, got great vision, he’s big, he’s elusive”. As always, high stakes and bragging rights will be on the line. “Royce Freeman is the best running back in the country”.

Washington State free safety Shalom Luani was once a soccer star for American Samoa, but his footwork and instincts have translated well onto the football field, where he has become one of the Cougars’ hardest hitters. Well, forget that. You’ve got to step up and act like you belong there and play like you belong there. I have a good feeling about this game, not all that dissimilar to how I’ve felt about the last 11 seasons. Vegas has Washington as a 1.5 point favorite. The Ducks allow opposing rushers to gain 4.28 yards per attempt. The Ducks will have to use their full compliment of weapons on Saturday and that starts at Quarterback. Husky Stadium capacity is 70,138.
