Valencia boss insists Arsenal target Mustafi ‘not for sale’
Vieira said, “It is good for the young players who could see an Henry, Fredrik Ljungberg, Campbell or a Martin Keown who have been at the club a good few years working in the academy, or working somewhere”.
Wenger admitted interest in the Germany global following Arsenal’s goalless draw against Leicester City on Saturday (20 August) and was hoping to conclude a deal at the earliest.
Team captain Per Mertesacker, Gabriel Paulista, and Laurent Koscielny are all presently unavailable and so head coach Arsene Wenger is left with the youthful but inexperienced duo of Calum Chambers and Rob Holding as his only options at the position.
However, with the World Cup victor commanding an asking price of £50m and the West Brom man having an equally eye-watering £25m price tag slapped on him (via Mirror), it appears that Wenger is preparing to go back to his old club to find the depth he is looking for.
According to the rumours, the Arsenal’s boss wants to bring one more star to his squad.
“I quite admire that in the world where some clubs have so much money, they buy players for £40m who are worth £10m”. The grade has been fairly good for the team, we had chances to win the match but we were not accurate. “I believe that you have to respect the players who play, the performance that has been done today by those teams and if you find players who can strengthen our team, then we are not reluctant to spend the money”.
Wenger revealed, though, that Mustafi is just one of a number of players he is looking at, in order to provide cover in defensive areas.
Ayestaran said after Valencia’s 4-2 defeat by Las Palmas on Monday night: “Mustafi is not for sale and will not be leaving the club”.
However, Valencia have been adamant they will not let him go for anything less than his £42m release clause. He’s 20 years old, he’s English and it’s a great reason to be happy. He has not told me he wants to leave the club.
