Valerie Harper hospitalized; falls ill before Maine performance
There have been discrepancies in reports about her condition, with some media outlets reporting that she had been discharged from the hospital, when she was just transferred to a larger facility for further treatment.
Valerie Harper came to the Ogunquit Playhouse excited to perform on the same stage as many of her peers.
Officials at a Maine playhouse say Valerie Harper is resting with her family after falling ill before a performance.
Valerie Harper’s longtime friend and co-star Sally Struthers says the actress is on the mend according to People.
The 75-year-old actress was performing a rendition of the musical “Nice Work If You Can Get It” at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Oqunquit, Maine. At approximately 8:56 p.m., the fire department arrived to find Valerie unconscious.
Kenney said the Ogunquit Playhouse has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of concern and affection for Harper and has been forwarding hundreds of well wishes to her from audience members and fans.
Corning also reported that an art tech said the actress had not been feeling well all week.
Other sources close to the situation were saying “it doesn’t look good”, and another said Harper had not been well all week. Sadly, in 2013 she was told she had terminal brain cancer and that she may only have three months to live. In her later years she returned to her first love, the stage. Her cancer is not cured, but she told ET that she was cancer-free from the neck down.
Harper has had a number of roles on Broadway, the big screen and TV.
