Vallejo Fire Department: Three-alarm warehouse fire on Mare Island
The fire in Alco’s 62,000-square-foot warehouse broke out last night before midnight and continues smoldering, with the structure full of things like used propane tanks, batteries, generators, and electronic waste.
The fire has also spread to nearby vegetation, according to the fire department.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1hQ5ZVv ) Friday that the fire broke out shortly before midnight Thursday at the Alco Metal & Iron Company, a recycling yard, on Mare Island.
Crews were able to contain all the spot fires, but it was a very active firefight for several hours. The large flames and orange smoke above the fire could be seen for miles around the Bay Area.
Residents have been being requested to keep away from the world Friday, however an official shelter-in-place advisory was not issued.
Alco Metal & Iron Company also experienced a fire in August of 2014 and Hazmat Teams responded because of concerns about hazardous chemicals.
