Valley’s unemployment rate is up while state numbers drop
Many of these teachers and other workers are likely regaining their employment status as the new school year is beginning.
Greenville County’s jobless figure dropped to 5.4 percent from 5.7 percent and Pickens County’s rate declined to 6.5 percent from 6.7 percent, according to officials with the Department of Employment and Workforce.
Seasonally adjusted total non-farm industry employment, as gathered through the monthly establishment survey, increased 20,600 to 4,259,000 in July. Financial activities increased for the third straight month (+1,500). Authorities noticed the most important loss, down 1,100 jobs. Mercer County was at 3.4 percent in June, compared to 3.1 percent in May. For the year, the manufacturing sector remains down by approximately 2,400 positions, according to the EDD. Larimer County’s July unemployment rate fell to 3.4 percent, four-tenths of a percentage point from June. Jobs at clothing and clothing accessory stores saw a growth of 5.6 percent for the month. In Nevada, which will pick Republican and Democratic nominees February 20, unemployment is still high at 6.8 percent.
North Carolina’s unemployment rate is 5.9% while it is 6.2% for Alabama.
Overall industry employment in July was about 11,000 more than it was in July 2014. The largest of these decreases occurred in the East North Central (-1.2 percentage points).
Nebraska’s unemployment rate rose in July for the first time in a year.
On its face, Arizona’s July employment report looks negative.
Indiana’s economic output made some of the smallest gains in the country a year ago, growing only 0.4 percent.
The largest over-the-month private sector job gains across the state were in trade, transportation and utilities. The highest rate on the other hand is recorded in West Virginia which was hit by the steep drop in coal prices with the unemployment rate shooting up to 7.5%. The remaining 27 states had rates that were not appreciably different from those of a year earlier.
No one factor contributed to the magnitude of jobs added in July, Bernick said. Oregon and Arizona showed statistically significant increases in joblessness. Orange County now has 145,700 government jobs, up 2.9% over the year.
