Van Gaal: De Gea is different
Manchester United open the new English Premier League season at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday looking for signs they are ready to mount a sustained assault on Chelsea’s title.
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal appeared to forgive the Spanish stopper after his costly mistake against Paris Saint-Germain.

“He tries and does (his) utmost best, but it’s a hard situation. We need to assess them in the last training session today”.
“I want to give special thanks to all the Directors and Management of Manchester United as well as to every member of the staff and colleagues as they gave me all their support”.
Asked if that meant Romero would start, the manager said: “You will have to wait and see”.

The ex-Watford wideman was one of the success stories of Louis van Gaal’s first season in charge, with Young’s versatility seeing him feature in both wide positions and at wing-back. However, it is said to be €1.5million short of his wish. In two of those three years he was nominated by the fans as the best player at the club.
Madrid themselves parted company with their former number one keeper this summer, 34-year-old Iker Casillas who spent 16 years at the club and made over 500 appearances, was sold to Porto.
“Van Gaal did arrange a behind-closed doors match to keep his players’ fitness ticking over this week and Romero may have done enough in that to earn the nod over Sam Johnstone”.
Hugo Lloris returned to action as Spurs wrapped up their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 win over AC Milan on Wednesday night, but the Frenchman is unlikely to start in goal.
“Maybe Liverpool tried to find their Harry Kane but we have Harry Kane“, he said.
