Van Gaal has no issue dealing with pressure
“I have always said he will be a midfield player and he will come again, but at the moment he is such a good goalscorer, you don’t want to give it up just yet”.
Hernandez has already been linked with a rapid return to the Premier League after reports suggested could move for the 27-year-old, although he only moved to Leverkusen in August in a £7.3m move after being told he was surplus to requirements by Van Gaal. “It may be the last club as I have said but it is not the first club where I have had a bad period”.
“But you can not do that because a year has 12 months”.
“After that we have managed to give balance to the team and that resulted in October and November in us being first in the Premier League. That’s why questions marks over Van Gaal will remain”.
Some United supporters have booed their team off and implored them to attack during matches after becoming annoyed at the ponderous, possession-based style often on display at Old Trafford.
“We have to be at the top of the league”.
Van Gaal admits the pressure is still on him, however, as he can not afford for the likes of Arsenal, Leicester, Manchester City and Tottenham to break away.
The Reds haven’t won in eight games but Van Gaal says he’s impressed by the support shown for his team.
Van Gaal has been linked with a number of forwards, including Sadio Mane, Edinson Cavani and Yoshinori Muto, but the 64-year-old was reluctant to say he would spend big on a forward in the window.
“We have to work, prepare the game, perform and then evaluate the game again”.
“Too many strikers of high quality for the same position is too much pressure but now I don’t have the chance to change”.
“My understanding was that I was going to a club which always looked after their managers, even when they were in trouble and it wasn’t going well, you got your time to sort things out”, Moyes said.
“You have to cope with that”.
Nicholas also played up the importance of Ryan Giggs and his role within the coaching staff, as he believes that the Welshman’s furious reaction after the loss to Stoke City as he stormed off the pitch may well have fired up some of the attacking players in the squad. It is always like that, then you continue with the same vicious circle of working.
Jesse Lingard remains a doubt for the game on Saturday.
