Van Gaal: Hernandez will get more chances

United face Club America on 18 July, before coming up against San Jose Earthquakes on 22 July and Barcelona on 25 July.

Hernandez has been invited to join the pre-season tour squad, which now boasts just two recognised strikers in Wayne Rooney and James Wilson, for the final leg in Chicago following his summer break.

Will the striker be given the opportunity to demonstrated that he still has a role to play at the club, or will he become merely a frustrated passenger as van Gaal looks to keep his options open?

“We shall see”, Van Gaal said of Di Maria’s future.

Writing about Chicharito on social media website Kicca, Hoddle explained, “I’ve said before that I thought in Javier Hernandez, Manchester United already had a player who could score goals for them”. It’s not clear in one day.

“For now he’s still a member of United and he has told me he shall come on 25 July”.

The Mexican global spent the previous season out on loan with Real Madrid, but following a return of nine goals in 33 appearances the Spaniards rejected the chance to bring him back for a second season.

“At the time, we have to decide which strikers we could have at Manchester United“.

“I made the decision to let (Danny) Welbeck and Chicharito (Hernandez) go”.

But after the departures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao, the Dutchman hinted that he may have changed his mind. “We hope in one or two weeks to be ready to talk about Chicharito in a different way”.
