Van Gaal: Rooney not ‘automatically’ back
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal admitted that he was anxious his side are not scoring enough goals, after the stalemate against PSV Eindhoven left them facing the risk of exiting the Champions League at the group stage.
It leaves Louis van Gaal’s side needing a win away to Wolfsburg to qualify – and the German side have not lost at home in the last 29 games in all competitions. It is not a outcome of good or bad performances.
“I think how we played was the same system as I played with the Dutch national team, and then he (Depay) has more freedom and these players are so happy with that freedom they can excel and he showed that in the first half”, Van Gaal said.
“The result is disappointing because I have still the feeling we could have finished this game several times, in the first half more than the second”.
“We gave the ball away so many times in the second half”. Van Gaal, who used to manage Moreno at AZ, urged his players not to target the Mexican on Wednesday, but there seems little doubt the player will get booed by the United faithful even though he visited Shaw in hospital two days after the match. “I compare players and the ones I think are best in our game plan, they shall play”. “We have to change these games into victories”.
“For me he’s still got a lot to prove goalscoring wise”, Scholes said on BT Sport.
That would be very handy for the Red Devils, who will not want to go to Germany for their group finale against Wolfsburg with any doubt over their progress.
The visitors again grew into the game and after 70 minutes, dominated in the final third as Mexican Andres Guardado controlled the game. It’s just wonderful how they are still in with a shout of qualifying and flying high in the Premier League.
“Manchester United of old would blow that group away, be qualified after four games”. “We have won our home match against Wolfsburg, so why can’t we win in Wolfsburg?”
Wayne Rooney conceded Manchester United face a hard task to reach the next phase of the Champions League after a 0-0 draw with PSV.
“Because of that I didn’t buy a left-back because I had Daley Blind and also Marcos Rojo who could play in that position, and also Ashley Young”.
