Van Gaal seeks a repeat of Derby display
In their last home game, Manchester United lost 1-0 at home to Southampton, and the United fans jeered very loudly at the manager after the game.
Last Friday’s 3-1 win over Derby in the FA Cup was a step in the right direction, but Van Gaal knows he could be back in hot water with the United fans if his team do not beat Stoke at Old Trafford.
“I hope that we can give the same level of performance as against Derby”, said van Gaal, when speaking to reporters at his post-match press conference.
However, the Dutchman was keen to stress that; “It’s not so important that they (the fans) yell at me, it’s more that they are supporting the players”. “It is important that the fans continue to support the players against Stoke as the players have the most hard task – they have to get a result at that hour, against Stoke’s resistance and there are no excuses”.
Stoke v Manchester United is as much a Juxtaposition as it is a match-up, as they are two very different teams with different styles of play guided by a unique Philosophy, but it’s safe to say that Stoke City are the more entertaining side to watch due to their free flowing attacking style as opposed to LVG’s anti-football tactics.
United produced an improved display against Championship side Derby, leaving some to suggest that they may have turned something of a corner, and are now looking more creative than the sides who registered one shot on goal in previous matches against Southampton and Liverpool.

The midfielder had been sidelined for almost a month through injury but is now closer to being recalled to the starting XI.
