Van Gaal: Vardy a ‘very nasty’ opponent for United
Louis van Gaal has said he is concerned that Manchester United supporters are unhappy with his side’s style of play.
“I can imagine that fans are saying that this is ridiculous, they have difficulties to score, but that is a short-term thought”, Van Gaal said.
Phil Jones and Ander Herrera are still out for United.
The manager Van Gaal says he will assess his squad after what he has called an “intense” Champions League game in mid-week against PSV Einhoven, which ended 0-0.
“At this moment, Wayne doesn’t play in the striker’s position”.
United captain Rooney is well aware of the threat posed by Vardy after linking up with the prolific 28-year-old on England duty and he wants his team-mates to start showing the kind of composure and predatory instincts displayed by the Leicester star.
“I only know Dennis Bergkamp as a player with me, who did the same with Ajax”. We have a very good spirit, we know on Saturday there will be a very good challenger for us.
Leicester finished 14th last season but now head the table, one point ahead of United.
“Going out to Germany is always tough, but we have to believe in ourselves and have the confidence in ourselves to do that”. “We have to win and that is the aim and that is what we need to do”.
But there is no sense of snobbery from Van Gaal when it comes to Vardy’s recent scoring run.
Manchester United’s James Wilson (left) is congratulated by teammate Robin Van Persie as he is substituted during their EPL match at Old Trafford in Manchester, May 6, 2014. “But Wayne is making area contribution to the team so I am satisfied with him”.
“Our goal at the moment is this but let me see the next two months and then maybe I change the goal”.
“You may think and criticise players or a team or a manager, but you have to do that with arguments, and not as a person”. My respect for him is very big.
And Sunderland will be looking to build on Monday night’s victory over Palace when they return to the Stadium of Light to take on a Stoke City side which has impressed this season. “We’ve proved that more than ever this season”. “His defensive line is fantastic, it is very hard to break their lines”.
“We have analysed Leicester and then we have to look at the shape and qualities of our players, but also the tiredness of every player, how they recover”.
