Van Persie agrees terms for Fenerbahce move
United are on the verge of signing off their pursuit of Torino right back Matteo Darmian so finally there will be a new number two in place in Van Gaal’s jigsaw.
Both players, who may go to Spanish club Real Madrid and Turkish team Fenerbahce, respectively, have started training as no decisions have been made regarding their possible departures, reports Efe.
Manuel Pellegrini is also confident of being able to sign Kevin de Bruyne, who is likely to cost £35 million, despite Bundesliga club Wolfsburg wanting to offer their Belgium midfielder a new deal. The Dutchman released a statement saying that he didn’t agree with the direction Arsenal was going.
Van Persie did enjoy the best of the seasons in the 2014/2015 campaign, which disrupted by injuries, as he only scored 10 goals for the Red Devils. Gribbin got into trouble with his coaches at United after taking to Twitter earlier this year to voice his displeasure at being left on the bench for a match with City.
The Dutch striker helped to fire Sir Alex Ferguson’s men to the title before the Scot stood down as manager the following summer.
Coming off a solid outing with the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup, there was a great deal of optimism Van Persie would bounce back from a bad year. After the end of the season, David Moyes was sacked after less than 12 months in charge. Things should be easier in Turkey, but maybe Van Persie is spoiled goods.
The Argentine believes it will only be a short time before United are successful again. Eventually they did find their feet and climbed up the table.
Whilst “good value” at that price may be a stretch the sentiment is clear – his goalscoring form in the 2012/13 season was crucial to winning the Premier League and the contribution is acknowledged as such. Manchester United has always been a club that likes to develop their young players, so Van Gaal’s use of them will surely give them the chance to prove themselves to their manager. He’ll always wonder what could have happened had he stayed at the Emirates.
The elder of the two will understand the challenges of moving straight from the Eredivisie to the Premier League and would be someone to guide Depay in overcoming the obstacles in his path.
