Vancouver Canucks acquire Brandon Sutter in trade with Penguins › Medicine Hat
Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford hasn’t been shy about wheeling and dealing this offseason as he previously acquired high-scoring forward Phil Kessel from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Vancouver Canucks pulled off a significant trade today, acquiring centre Brandon Sutter and a third-round draft pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for centre Nick Bonino, defenceman Adam Clendening and a second-round pick.
Bonino had a quick start for Vancouver, but tailed off and finished with 15 goals on the season. The 27-year-old put up 88 points over the last two seasons spent between the Anaheim Ducks and Canucks.
Clendening, a 22-year old defensemen, came up with the Chicago Blackhawks organization, which drafted him in the second round in 2011.
Last year, Fehr played 79 games with the Washington Capitals and tallied 19 goals and 14 assists. He is slated to become an unrestricted free agent after this coming season.
Pittsburgh is also sending a third round pick in 2016 to Vancouver as part of the deal. The Penguins had previously acquired the Buffalo Sabres’ third-round pick as compensation for the hiring of former head coach Dan Bylsma.
