Community and religious leaders of different faiths denounced the anti-Muslim graffiti Thursday morning in front of the center at 4007 River Road. Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage.
Matt Goldberg, director of the Louisville Jewish Community Relations Council, stood beside Babar at Thursday’s press conference, and pledged his support to the center. Authorities say the security camera wasn’t working and investigators have taken the hard drive to see if there is some clue.
“Whoever did this, we will pray for him, and we have forgiven him”, Muhammad Babar, a spokesman for the center, told the newspaper.
Babar says the vandals will not get the reaction they may have been hoping for telling WHAS11 this will only bring the community together as one.
Barbar had this message for whoever is responsible: “We hold no grudge against the individual, or the individuals, who wounded the sanctity of this sacred place and house of God and we have nothing but forgiveness and prayers for them”.
“An act like this will not be tolerated in this community”, Fischer told a news conference outside the center.
Friday afternoon at 3:30, the mayor is leading a community effort to clean up the mosque.
