Vape battery explodes inside woman’s purse
Mara McInerney got the shock of her life when her vape pen exploded in her $1,200 Louis Vuitton bag.
A New Jersey woman avoided injury over the weekend after the batter for her vaping device spontaneously exploded in her purse.
The whole incident was caught on surveillance video inside the Sunglasses Hut at the Freehold Mall. Moments later, smoke started pouring out of the purse. It was then that she discovered her melted personal vaporizer and what was left of the charred battery.
She immediately dumped her purse out and says her belongings were either molten or burnt after the explosion, according to AP. The culprit has been the ion lithium batteries that power 95 percent of all electronic mobile devices.
‘(It was) like a M80 bomb went off in my mouth, ‘ Brandon told WTEN.
Hamilton’s was one of several cases of e-cigarette battery explosion earlier this year.
McInerney says there was no warning.
“It could have exploded in her face”, McInerney said. “Plugging an e-cigarette into a “standard” USB port to recharge may result in an explosion and/or fire”.
