Vardy: Says Rejecting Arsenal Wasn’t A Difficult Decision
The 29-year-old’s future was the subject of intense speculation while he was away with the Three Lions on Euro 2016 duty, but he eventually chose to commit to the Premier League champions by signing a new £100,000 per week contract with the club (Daily Mail), and he explained his decision when speaking to The Sun.
“It’s not been put out there that I have always said the boys, the close-knit brotherhood, is unbelievable and for me, there’s a lot of unfinished business here”, said Vardy, according to SkySports.
I think everyone in the squad would want him [Mahrez] here playing with us.
Asked if he had held talks with Arsenal about a move, he replied: “I was away with England”. “No I never spoke with them”.
Vardy says he was never keen on leaving Claudio Ranieri’s team.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Vardy explained how he was tempted to join the Gunners but ultimately made a decision to stay put as he had “unfinished business” at the club.
Vardy was one of Leicester City’s top goal scorers last season, a season that shocked the world when the Foxes, 5000/1 outsiders for the Premier League title, defied the odds and picked up their first league title in their history.
“He improves more if he stays with us for another year, maybe next year he can think about another solution”.
Asked if he has tried to persuade the Algeria worldwide to stay, Vardy replied: “No, it is his decision”.
The prolific attacker also had his say on the situation of Riyad Mahrez, who has been linked with a move away from Leicester, and has admitted he is keen for the Algeria worldwide to stay put.
“I feel the club is still going up”.
