Vardy scores stunning opener, Leicester beats Liverpool 2-0
“It’s nice to be in the stadium when Jamie Vardy made the goal of the month, but in an ideal world you are not the manager of the other team”.
A second-half brace from Jamie Vardy has handed Leicester City a 2-0 victory over Liverpool to ensure that they remain three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
“We had a few shots where we could pass and a few passes where we could shoot”.
Mahrez looked Leicester’s biggest goal threat in the first half and in the 14th minute he plucked a high ball out of the sky, before volleying the ball straight at Mignolet. “The second goal was not too good, but I don’t know why it’s not an offside after a ball like this”, he told LFC TV. However, nearly every bit of praise waged at Leicester this season has been hedged because of the perception that, no matter how many matches it wins, a club like Leicester just in’t supposed to be successful in the Premier League. “I have to watch it again”.
“You saw that this (first) goal made the difference tonight”.
A smiling Jamie Vardy reckoned he had never scored a finer goal than the blistering long-distance volley which helped Leicester City’s footballing fantasy enter ever more surreal territory on Tuesday.
He explained that they have had games where they have “done it much better” but bemoaned that they haven’t “often enough to have won games in a row” and said it’s their “situation” and they “have to work on it”.
It was a bad night for Arsenal at the top of the Premier League as they were held to a goalless draw at the Emirates by Southampton, while closest rivals Leicester City, Manchester City and Spurs recorded wins. Klopp has done a very good job so far and I’m sure next season will better.
After an hour of deadlock at the King Power Stadium, Vardy took matters into his own hands, latching on to a long ball pumped down the right, looking up and launching an unstoppable 25-metre rocket over stranded goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
Jamie Vardy. The England man is on the verge of a new contract and celebrated with his 17th and 18th goals of the campaign – his first a contender for goal of the season. This says most about the game.
