Vauxhall Contacts 220000 Drivers Over Fires
He said their investigation has found “improper fix of the blower motor resistor and its thermal fuse which is created to protect the blower motor system”, but further analysis is ongoing to verify the root cause of the fires.
Vauxhall says the potential issue only relates to vehicles with manual or no air-conditioning built between 2005 and 2014 – in effect, the Mk2 Zafira, known as Zafira B. The first generation and the current Zafira Tourer are not affected; nor are Mk2 Zafiras with automatic climate control.
“We do not want to speculate on root causes as we must depend on the facts to generate a robust fix”.
A spokesman for Vauxhall confirmed they were carrying out an investigation following reports of fire in the area of the heating and ventilation system in a number of Vauxhall Zafira B models launched in 2005.
The letters will be sent out in stages from November 12.
Managing director Rory Harvey says Vauxhall “fully understands the seriousness of the situation” and owners’ “personal concerns about safety”.
He added: “Please be assured we are taking all the necessary steps to restore your confidence in your Zafira B and Vauxhall”.
THIS is the horrifying moment that mum-of-four Lisa Taperek’s Vauxhall Zafira went up in flames just moments after rescuing her baby son from the back seat.
“If I had left Kinsley in a little bit longer, the smoke was pouring in really fast – it doesn’t bear thinking about”.
‘It’s disgusting to think Vauxhall is letting people drive these cars’. “If he had died who would have held their hands up?”
The 2007 Vauxhall Zafira was bought earlier this year and Ms Taperek said she was unaware of a recent spate of similar incidents, as reported by the Swindon Advertiser.
But Lisa didn’t see the coverage and did not notice anything was wrong when she pulled up on the driveway of mum Caroline’s home on Tuesday morning.
Lisa said: “I was faffing about in my bag while she walked down the drive to the auto, and when she opened up the door she said why is the vehicle smoking?”
“I got the fire extinguisher and dialled 999”, said Mrs Sulsh.
