Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock ‘sent his girlfriend away’ Marilou Danley before massacre
Paddock wired $100,000 to an account in Danley’s home country, the Philippines, in the week before he unleashed the worst mass shooting in modern US history, according to multiple senior law enforcement officials.
The Philippines’ National Bureau of Investigation told AFP news agency it was investigating reports that Paddock sent $100,000 to Ms Danley in the Philippines days before the shooting.
Nevada police said she remained a “person of interest” in their ongoing investigation though earlier ruled out her participation in the crime.
On Danley’s Facebook page, she describes herself as a “proud mom and grandma who lives life to the fullest”.
At a late-night press conference Tuesday, authorities said Paddock, a high-stakes gambler and retired accountant, made his attack even more deadly by adding more lethal components to his weapons.
Police searching the 32nd Floor hotel suite found Paddock carrying Danley’s identity on him at the time he was residing there.
Danley’s siblings, who live in Australia, did an interview with a local channel, saying that they believe Paddock, 64, sent their sister away so that she could not interfere with what he was planning.
At least two off-duty police officers were wounded while attending the concert. CNN reports the sisters are Australian residents who say their sibling was “really in love with Steve”.
An associate of Danley’s said they could not believe she had anything to do with the shooting.
And then there was this, also unconfirmed: A concert-goer said she was told by a woman that many were going to die that evening.
They said Danley is “a good person” who would’ve stopped Paddock had she been there.
Separately, USA Today reports that authorities were looking into “recent transfers of large amounts of money involving the suspect and the possible relationship to gambling activities”. “And, you know, who would have ever imagined this situation”, Lombardo said. It has since been confirmed that Danley boarded a flight to the United States where authorities awaited her.
“We have located the vehicles in question, and we are confident we have located the female person of interest”, the LVMPD said on its official Twitter account.
Suarez and other Filipino authorities would not say if Danley, 62, was still in the Philippines. Paddock reportedly killed himself as officers closed in on the hotel room he had chosen to carry out the attack.
