Vehicle Strikes Capitol Barricade, Driver In Custody
Police say they arrested Antonio Pierorazio, but details including his age, hometown or specific charges weren’t released.
The perimeter of the Capitol Building was not breached.
The incident occurred just before 9 a.m. and the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody by Capitol Police, The Washington Post reported.
A red Nissan Altima attempted to crash the barricade outside the U.S. Capitol building by driving full speed into the barrier Friday morning.
Police have completed their investigation of the crash, but haven’t said yet what they’ve learned about it. Pierorazio was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Police say the vehicle was cleared of hazards and removed from the barricade. It does not contain any hazardous materials. The south barricade of the U.S. Capitol and its immediate surrounding areas were closed.
The vehicle drove into a barricade that stands about 50 yards from the entrance of the House Chamber, near where members of the House park during Congressional votes.
