Venus Williams makes early exit from Rogers Cup
Serena Williams eventually eased her way into the third round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto, but had it far from all her own way against Flavia Pennetta before collecting the 725th win of her career.
Meanwhile, Serena Williams said she is recovering from an elbow injury that forced her to withdraw from a tournament in Stanford that took place last week.
However, Williams has aspirations beyond the tennis court, namely involving her budding career as a fashion mogul.
She has a 40-1 record in 2015, is the defending champion at all four Grand Slam events and will look to complete the calendar Grand Slam at the 2015 U.S. Open.
Speaking after her win, via the Globe and Mail, the world number one admitted that she “was really frustrated with how [she] was playing” in the first set, as she “was making so many errors” which made her “really angry“.
Canadian Eugenie Bouchard is out of the Rogers Cup in the first round for the second straight year.
At 1-2 down in the second, she flipped the switch and won 11 of the next 12 games to defeat Pennetta.
“It’s for sure a step in the right direction”, Bouchard told reporters. “I just want to continue to get better and do the best I can”. “Especially since I haven’t played a match on hard courts since early April it was really good for me to have this long match and get ready for hopefully the rest of this week”. Bouchard has also dropped 13 of her past 15 matches overall.
Recently Serena Williams showed off her love possibly for her boyfriend Patrick Mouratoglou on Instagram. The Venus Williams-Sabine Lisicki match also went on just after 10 p.m., salvaging a portion of the night session.
“I feel OK about my game”, Williams said on a recent conference call.
Serena appears as queenly and striking as you’d think on the cover, and things get a little more sexy during her photo-op inside.
Andrea Petkovic, the 16th seed, knocked out Canadian wildcard Francoise Abanda 3-6 6-4 6-2, Heather Watson thrashed Irina Falconi 6-1 6-2, and Dominika Cibulkova downed Sloane Stephens 6-3 6-4.
“It may be good as a result of I am going to play the most effective gamers ever”, stated Pennetta.
