“Hey Venus, welcome to the 700 club!”
Williams followed younger sister Serena in accomplishing the feat, courtesy of a 6-4 6-3 triumph over Julia Goerges in China.
Venus Williams earned the 700th victory of her career Tuesday by beating German qualifier Julia Goerges 6-4, 6-3 in the second round of Wuhan Open.

Fellow seeds Madison Keys and Belinda Bencic were also knocked out, the former going down to Kristina Mladenovic before Bencic retired from her match with Camila Giorgi, the Italian having taken the first set 6-2.
“I’m relieved nobody asked before – I should has been a spilt second nervous”, Williams informed the WTA internet website post-event.
Williams shows few signs of slowing down and she said she now had her sights set on next year’s Rio Olympics, where she will hope to add to her haul of four gold medals.
Williams, who is the oldest player at Wuhan and turned professional in 1994, when Goerges was not yet six, becomes only the ninth player to reach 700 wins.
